About Zena
Zena was born in Edmonton, Alberta carrying fond memories of growing up in the quiet beauty of Jasper. At the age of seven, her family moved to Scarborough, Ontario, where she found connection in a small but close-knit Lebanese community allowing her to embrace her family roots. Moving around the GTA and living in Toronto for over 20 years, has given her the opportunity to live within a wide range of dynamics, diversity and with the privilege to access support and resources.
Early interest in supporting others began while working at a local pharmacy, where she discovered a deep appreciation for being in the company of seniors. This led her to pursue a Social Service Worker Diploma and begin what has become a lifelong commitment to care and connection.
In 1998, she joined what is now Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) and has spent over two decades helping students grow and thrive. From career development in the TRSM Business Career Hub to her current role as an Academic Advisor, having the privilege of walking alongside hundreds of undergraduate students as they navigate their paths.
Gestalt Therapy found her in 2016 during a turbulent chapter of life—and it was transformative. As a client for over four years, she experienced firsthand the power of this present-centered, experiential approach. In 2020, she began training at the Gestalt Institute of Toronto and now practice as a Student Therapist. Currently advancing Gestalt psychotherapy training to further support wellness and personal growth in academic and community settings.
Her approach is grounded in what gestalt has referred to as: “here, now, next”; noticing what is here in the present moment, noticing the sensation in the now, and allowing what comes next to naturally emerge. Her practice brings trauma awareness, a sensitivity to difference and inclusion, and a willingness to co-create something new.
